LEVEL D

Stories at this level are slightly more complex but are still very easy for children to understand. Stories are usually based in the child's experience. Illustrations still support text but children need to attend to the print. Most of the text have clear print with obvious spacing. The lines of a text range from two to six lines per page and have more words than previous levels. In these books you will find a full range of punctuation and vocabulary is repeated through out text. You begin to find more inflectional endings -ing, -ed, -s to give children the opportunity to notice the variations in word structure. The following titles are examples of books that might be available in a public library. Your public librarian could be another resource in locating additional titles. When looking for other titles take this description of Level D books as a reference.
